GTA On N64?
Grr...  One of these days I'm going to get the full story on this subject straight from Rockstar to settle this once and for all.  Is there going to be an N64 version of GTA?  Well, I really don't know for sure but there have been rumors that claim its in development and an equal amount of rumors that say its never going to happen.  The only reason I mention this is because I found an old GTA N64 preview over on N64.IGN.com from back in March.  I don't recall ever posting it before so I thought I'd give it a mention.  I'll do what I can to get some more info on this as soon as possible.  The most intriguing part of the preview is in the following quote:
"Rockstar isn't releasing much on the Nintendo 64 version of Grand Theft Auto, except to say that it's not the sequel or an add-on pack. IGN64 has learned that the game, though essentially a port of the PlayStation original, will feature significant additions in the vein of souped-up graphics and added levels and characteristics."
The mention of "added levels" is what caught my eye.  I just wonder if they will actually add cities, or if it will just be extra chapters added to the existing cities.

GTA2 Dot Com Is Closed
Rich Pyke has shut down GTA2 Dot Com just after he recently opened it.  He asked that I post the following comments on the site's closure.  After his statement is another statement from an anonymous GTA newsgroup member:
  • Rich Pyke on GTA2 Dot Com:
I have only just uploaded GTA2 Dot Com (or G2 if you went there after I renamed it) and already I have a few f*cking stupid twats flaming it, telling me I cant do it, people complaining because I got all of the previews and interviews in one site and so on.  Well this should keep the lot of the bastards happy, I have decided NOT to make the site, I was just trying to help everyone out by having all of the previews etc. in one site to save you having to go to multiple sites to find out stuff. Well it wont be all under one roof now as it is closed.  Even though I NEVER said it was all MY OWN WORK and I gave full credit to the people who actually wrote the previews, but that just doesn't please everyone. I got alot of good comments about the site but only about 3 bad ones. I learned from my old site, not to bother getting started in any arguments as it only leads to more grief.  I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all who said my new site was good and a big FU*K YOU to all that said it was a quick fix for a good site.  Well you will never see GTA2 Dot Com ever again (unless some other poor bastard decides to name a GTA2 site that).

I doubt I will ever have a GTA or GTA2 site again because the general attitude and atmosphere of the GTA site web masters is just not what it should be. Its only a few who spoil it for the rest of us. Most of the web masters are helpful but there are a few who just get too jealous and can't stand the competition.

  • Anonymous AGGTA Member on GTA2 Dot Com:
Richard Pyke has quit the GTA world once and for all. This comes after some unfortunate comments about him in the GTA newsgroup AGGTA by certain regulars towards him, as well as some scandalous comments on the Nice One site by Gamespy's Mugwum.

While it is true that he has stolen site designs in the past, been egocentric about his own sites, and many other things which have not endeared him to the GTA playing masses, I for one will miss both him, the way in which he challenged the authority of AGGTA to my personal amusement, and his much maligned sites, which I have never thought were that bad, once he used his own design.

    Richard, we salute you.

Anonymous AGGTA'er (I just know I'll get slagged off now)

GTA Mod Loader Deluxe
Rhys has completed work on the GTA Mod Loader Deluxe which should be available at Crazy Bob's House of Guns any day now.  The deluxe version of the mod loader adds the following features:
  • Support for the intro movie, character pics, in game audio, and special.fxt
  • Ability to mix and match mods, ie use characters from one map in another
  • Able to now add 2 maps with custom names at a time
  • A built in CD Player - fills in a bit of space.

Rhys has already started work on a new util called the GTA Mod Installer.  The mod installer will unzip map zip files and install them for easy use with the GTA Mod Loader.

Austin Powers TC
Gold Phoenix sent word that the web site for the Austin Powers TC will be going live tomorrow at drive.to/austinpowerstc.  He also mentioned that the Austin Powers TC is still searching for a map maker, two mission editors, a car maker, and someone to record sounds.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Gold Phoenix @ goldphoenix@cyberdude.com

Site Updates
Well, getting G! on the web was a lot harder than I thought possible...  First, my ISP decided that it just didn't want to let me connect to the server space, so I disconnected and dialed up on my BS university account that is slower than sh*t, but at least it let me get to the server.  I then uploaded the entire site, only to find that fu*king WS_FTP had decided to reset my remote directory, so I uploaded all of it to some directory that didn't even exist!!!  After a lot of cussing and door punching I finally started to upload it to the correct directory.  There are still some sections of G! that are under construction and this week will be more of a beta run than anything.  Oh well, now that its up I should be more motivated to get it completely up and running.

Opening Day!
Woohoo!  Opening day here at G! which means I will be tweaking the site as well as adding and updating sections all this week.  I will be going over the site page by page to check links and such so you may run into bad or out of date links from time to time.  If you find any bad links or weird problems please send me an email.  G! should work on any modern browser and every resolution above 800x600, although I've only tested it on various versions of Netscape and IE.  If you are using a browser other than Netscape or IE, please let me know if you have any complications.  I've only found some minor problems with older versions of Netscape that cause weird frame spacing problems that cut the top corner images off, but that's nothing major.  Currently G! is frames only, but if there is enough demand for it I will create a non-frames version, let me know what you think.

Just a few comments on different sections:

I just finished the GTA2 section which took a lot longer than I ever thought possible.  It includes every GTA2 screen shot I could get my hands on and summarizes a lot of the points mentioned in the different previews.  The GTA2 FAQ is out of date but will be updated soon.  Since I took so much time working on the GTA2 info section the GTA London section is still under construction, I'll probably devote a day to that section sometime this week.  The multiplayer listing CGI is done, but I want to add some anti-spam protection to it before it goes live.  Currently I have no plans on running a multiplayer list on this site, but hopefully the multiplayer game listings should cancel out the need for a list.  The chat section and message boards were dependent on the server details which I just got, so they are still in limbo at the moment, but I'll try and get everything online as quickly as possible.
