I copied the San Andreas from the GTAects.zip file into the 24 bit version and nothing happened. So I got the idea to copy all of the files over that are in the ects version that are not in the 24 bit version. Still nothing. But after I copied over the data into the mission.ini file in the 24 bit version (and changing the [1] at the beginning of the file to a [2]) I was able to play on the map. But when you complete the first mission, it crashes to the desktop. Has anyone else tried to do this? And if so have they done it so the game doesn't crash? Submitted by Jim Solomon Q:

can't get the boat without cheating.
Just bought the Playstation version of GTA and have now discovered the delights of blowing up cars with car bombs, but is there anything specific you should try to blow up ?? Police stations etc. seem to be indestructible. Submitted by JB Q:
I'm not 100% sure on this, but as far as the mission.ini file seems to read, these are just designed to blow up and make your life harder. The one I particularly liked, mind you, was the cop car you steal and two radio-controlled bomb-cars come after you (somewhere just west of Vice Beach :) Submitted by Fletch How do I chat in the multiplayer mode. If I press F4, I can get the beeper thing to come up, but the other guy never gets my messages Submitted by Mitch Neubauer
I know it's noddy - but once you've got the pager up and typed your message, have you pressed return to send it? (You can tell I've done too much tech support recently). The pager will only accept a maximum length string as well, which is reasonably short, but if you type quickly you don't notice this until the scrolling catches up. Submitted by Fletch. Does any body know where to find the chopper? Submitted by Dave Langston Q:
The multiplayer options are available in each of the 3 cities. They are as follows: 1.) Deathmatch 2.) Cannonball 1 3.) Cannonball 2 4.) Cannonball 3 The Cannonballs are merely races between players. Various checkpoints are set up and players race to each one as they follow the arrow directing them. The winner is the one who reaches the final checkpoint. Submitted by Shucker How do you do a bank job because on the demo at the end it always says Bank Jobs = 0 Submitted by ben
The bank job(s) are accomplished with hidden missions with the special cars. Submitted by Ted Does anyone know why there aren't any trams on the tracks in San Andreas??? Submitted by Lars Q:
Yes, Tom, you can easily get over 10,000,000 pts in the Liberty City Demo. The procedure is outlined on the "Tips & Tricks" page. Just "stack" cars side by side (at least 20, more recommended), and gun down the first one. 1,000,000 is the target score in the demo, but this can be changed in the mission.ini file to something considerably less. As yet, I haven't found anything special that happens when the target score is met. In the full version, you just proceed to the next level. The demo doesn't have a next level. Submitted by Ted I was wondering if it's possible to spray water with the fire truck? Submitted by Kacper
The Fire Engine doesn't shoot water or anything, and you can't even move the turret/hose Submitted by Ringo (In regards to the Tank) I found that you can turn the turret by using the tab key. How do you load the gun and fire? Submitted by Ivan
Tank only shoots during a mission e.g. Kill Frenzy. Once completed it loses its ability to shoot, which is done by hitting the fire key (Ctrl). It needs no reloading. Submitted by Ringo I have the full version. Do you know how to get the boat? I've been looking for days. Submitted by POOT
Well, POOT, the boat is rather easy to find. Just start off, take two lefts, a right, then the second right, and now you should be in front of your mission.ini file. Just change the Andreas Medium starting vehicle (andreas medium line 84) from 19 to 13. Once this is done start the game and choose Mandarin Mayhem and there it is...and remember, "Don't be a pain in the boat!" Submitted by Ted A:
I am playing the full version and I have already completed one mission. But it seems that each time I exit the game and come back playing the same character, I start from 0 points. However, I can see the last highest points I have scored in my last game. I think maybe if I complete another mission , the points will add on to my last highest score. (And when you accumulate enough credits do you move on to the next level??) Submitted by David
It is 1 million for the first level, 2 million for the second (Still in Liberty City) and 2 million for the next (In San Andreas). You can find out how many you need by pausing (F6) and waiting till the message pops up. Submitted By Ringo
(In regards to - "And when you accumulate enough credits do you move on to the next level??") It's 1 million points. At least, that is according to what a friend of mine told me, who has played the game extensively. Submitted by Sir Beast A:

GTA will be released in the US in February for PC and in April for the Playstation. In the UK, GTA has been found at PC World, WH Smiths, Virgin Megastore, and HMV. I've also received word that it is available in Denmark. I'm guessing that it is available in the rest of Europe as well. I still have not gotten any reports of availability in Canada or anywhere else for that matter. Submitted by schu A:

Can someone post where all the special missions (i.e. jobs that don't come through the phones) are on the Liberty City Chapter 2 level. After you recieve the message in red, a red arrow will appear where the yellow mission arrow normally is. Just follow that. If you passed Liberty City, it works exactly the same way. Sometimes, the game jacks up and when you go into the garage, it just lets you walk around with the little arrow going crazy, and it never works. It's a glitch. Try it again I hate that! Submitted by Ted In chapter 1 of San Andreas, after you have done the mission where you have to disarm car bombs around the city, it tells you to 'make some guys talk'. It directs you to these guys, but I don't know what to do. I tried punching them. Nothing happens. I shot them all and it said mission failed. Submitted by Mike Smith
There is a way to do this, it always works for me. All you need is a machine gun and a getaway car to sprint to the autoshop. When you see the four guys standing there aim and shoot 3 of them, the other one will crap his pants and run off. Chase him, avoiding arrest and when you catch him beat him up. That should solve your problems. He will reveal the rest of the mission. Good Luck. Submitted by Rodimus Prime On your page you talk about a army base in liberty city but i can't find it?? Can you please tell me how to get to the army base or which mission I have to play to get there?? Submitted by Ossie
The "Army Base" is in North Fort Law in Liberty City Chapter 2. It's really just a shed with a tank in it. Submitted by Ted I need a quick tip, on the second set in the second city, there is a jump in the bottom left-hand corner, I have found the bike, got over, read the notice and jumped back across, but what do I do next, please save me from madness!, well to late for that, but could you help anyway. Submitted by Feck
Reading the sign in San Andreas: Once you read the sign that's
over the ramp in the bottom left corner, you'll find a secret door has
opened elsewhere on the level, giving access to a tank kill frenzy.
Where it is... I'm not telling.

I'm not going to go into a lot of detail on this, because it depends on your system, but basically it goes something like this. You need DOS ipx drivers for your network card - as an example mine are called ipxodi.com (the IPX/ODI protocol program), lsl.com (links support layer), and ne2000.com (The ne2000-compatible card stuff). Basically, you drop out of Windows into DOS-mode (otherwise your different network protocols shoot each other in the foot), run the link support layer, run your card program, and then run the protocol you wish to use. Then, run GTA A couple of notes:
2. The programs depend on what DOS network support you want, and more importantly, depend on which network card you've got. 3. You'll need to set up a config file so all your computers are running the same protocol (Ethernet_802.3 for example). 4. Your card drivers should come with the card, or better yet, get the lot off the internet. 5. I don't think socket number is important unless more than one game is running on the same network. Just leave it as it is. I read that some people are having trouble with the modem game in DOS. I am also. My modem never initializes although it works perfectly in every other game like duke3d, quake, warcraft2, age of empires, etc. The modem strings are all fine (like ATZ) and the com port is set right. My friend had the same problem. Someone that has gotten a DOS modem game to work could you please ICQ or Email me? Submitted by Snake Q:

In my networking class we have noticed that big drop in framerates when you have a four player game with pentiums. Submitted by Michael Ebata I have a problem running GTA under windows because it flickers. I have a 2 meg Creative Labs Blaster card. The game works fine when I install DirectX 5.0 but for some reason, my desktop will flicker. So I have to use the display driver for my video card instead of Microsoft's. Could someone please help! Submitted by Pakman
Your desktop is flickering with DirectX 5.0 installed because Micro$oft's DirectX hasn't installed, for want of a better word, an 'accurate' enough driver for your card. I had the same problem installing Tomb Raider II - it automatically ran DirectX and changed my display driver without asking, despite my original driver running fine with TR2. The only viable solution is either (a) get the most up to date driver for your card and install it after DirectX or (b) wait for a better version of DirectX *hint of irony*. If the drivers for your card are the ones it came with the chances are there's a far more up to date version on their web site. Submitted by Fletch Whenever I run the 24 bit version of GTA, it is always speckly with black dots. I can get rid of the black dots by rechoosing the screen type with F11, but then the game runs really slow. Why? I have a Pentium 166 MMX So I don't think my system is too slow. Why does it do this? Submitted by Luke
The problem could be a monitor that is not compatible with the resolution that GTA is trying to run. Ages ago, before I had my SVGA monitor... hehe... whenever I tried to run an SVGA game, I got the black-dot screen thang. I think it's your monitor. Submitted by PyRo My GTA only works in dos-mode and not in win95. The game works at the title screen but when I click on play game the screen becomes dark. Play DOS version GTA on IPX, even if you're in Win95. Also, you take a large performance loss if you have: Submitted by Michael Ebata I have been trying to play the windows game of GTA but it always gives me an error saying "error 268.473 Cannot find a suitable display mode" Submitted by cfswift
If GTA is giving you an "Error: Cannot find a suitable display mode", do this following: Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed, and go into the directx folder (usually C:\Program Files\Directx). From there, go into the setup directory. In that directory you should find a file called "Dxtool.exe". Double-click on it. At the very bottom there is a box that says next to it "Use DirectDraw Hardware Acceleration". Make sure this is checked. If that doesn't work, try messing around with the other settings in the directx tools. NOTE: If you enable DirectDraw Hardware Acceleration and have a video card with the NVidia chipset (RIVA), make sure to disable it when you are done with the game, or it may cause problems with other applications. Sometimes, if your Windows resolution is Bigger or Different than the 640x480 or 600x800 that Grand Theft Auto uses, Both resolutions have to be supported. My workaround suggestion would be to either switch Windows to 640x480 / 800x600 (depending on your GTA settings), or to run GTA through DOS. I experienced the same problems with other DOS games which used different resolutions and a change in the Windows resolution fixed it. This tip will only work with the Dos Version as I have only tested the Demo for DOS. I imagine that Windows 95 uses DirectX, but I don't know. Next, I was trying to complete
missions in Vice City and I noticed that the car I had to steal (the one
with Deever's kids) was on fire. It wasn't charred or damaged, and it drove
just fine, but it was engulfed
Third, and not to mention
my favorite, is most easily accomplished with a Beast GTS, but any car
will work. First, you have to park a car (or bus, tanker, even a
tank :) about halfway off a ledge. Then, jump off the ledge and fire
a rocket at the wall or cliff below the car. It seems to work best
if you can hit slightly to the west of the car. As you expect, when
the rocket hits the wall, the explosion blows the car to pieces.
But then something weird happens. The car just keep blowing up.
And other cars seem to be impervious to these explosions. They do set pedestrians
ablaze, though, if they are close enough. My guess is that the chain
reaction explosion has something to do with the way the game engine interprets
varying heights, and the car hanging off the edge really confuses it. This
seems to work with any car, even oversized vehicles, which are a LOT more
fun. Good for about 100 explosions, then you need to fire another
rocket.
BUG:
I've had this happen several times with special mission cars, and the only way I was able finish the mission was to get out, get a truck, and ram the car "out" of the wall, and get back in. The car takes quite a bit of damage this way, a real problem when you have to escape from cops later, but it's my only solution. Submitted by Ted I found an interesting, obscure bug in GTA the other day. I was driving around in San Andreas and started selling stolen cars to make a few quick bucks. I was driving a Porka and was sliding toward the crane. I misjudged my distance and slid too far. Normally, there are cement blocks to prevent you from falling off, but there weren't any at this dock (the one by the big bridge). Anyway, I slid right onto the platform! I found that any car can reliably jump the 1 square gap. Later, I sold a car, then jump under it when it was lowering onto the platform. I kept getting the 'come back later' message when I tried selling the next car and when I came back, I saw the car I drove under earlier, except it was about four stories below the sea level (but still appeared above everything). It kept lowering until I got a dos4gw stack overflow, crashing the game. Submitted by Putzmeister BUG:

Sorry to hear about your problem. This is something a handful of people have mentioned. We're just using standard CD Audio code (ie just sending an instruction to start playing at track 'x'), so there's nothing in the GTA code which could be causing the glitch. Colin Macdonald
A very annoying bug occurred to me. Its when in missions you have to drive into a garage. Well, sometimes when you drive in (the door opens ok for you), it does nothing! It just seems that the mission has stopped or something. I am right above the arrow that points to the goal of the mission. Any one else seen this? Submitted by Paul Synnott
I've run into the same thing several times, mainly with parking cars in driveways. One solution I found was to park the car on the arrow, then get out. Sometimes this triggers it, sometimes driving around again, parking and getting out triggers it. And sometimes, parking just off the arrow and getting out triggers it. And sometimes drinking half a bottle of whisky means it doesn't matter any more :) Submitted by Fletch I encountered a strange bug in GTA. It all happened in first city, mission 2, with "iamthe..." cheat enabled. As usual I fu*ked up some missions and was left out of work - so no missions until I found a secret car... I was cruizing around with the top down and was collecting guns and trying to find a car with a mission. When I had 99 ammunition for both pistol and machine gun, I decided to "make some noise!" - that cruizin' got boring... I started to shooting all
the cars I could see. In the first intersection I shot at and made explode
about 6 cars, and accidentally also my own car :-) Then I was running along
the bridge
I ran out of moving cars!!! I had bullets left in my
pistol, but no cars to shoot at! The only cars I was able to find were
the few, parking around the city. But finding them wasn't easy -
go try yourself running on foot on wide
IMHO: This bug probably happened,
because I shot all the Fire Brigade Trucks and all the ambulances before
in that game... and There was nobody to clean up the mess after me.

"my money started growing fast as the next car exploded, grew up to nine digits and then the first digit continued the turn around," and later you don't have enough money any more. Well, a possible reason is that the score has "wrapped around" and become negative. This could happen if it were kept in a 32-bit signed integer variable. These variables can hold numbers from -2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647. The number 2147483647 + 1 can be computed, but will be interpreted as -2147483646. You don't notice this because your score grew so fast and you can't see the billion digit; in addition, GTA is obviously not prepared to display negative money ;-) Bug Fix: Ask DMA to release a patch that checks for overflow when the score is increased. Workaround 1: Keep track of the unseen digit and don't exceed $2,147,483,647. Find out how many cars are safe to blow up. Workaround 2: Blow up some more cars and make the score positive again (not tested ;-) Workaround 3: Give away some
money, have it wrap around the other way and get a really big amount again
Well many times during my play I have used the technique of placing cars side by side for major points... Problem is half the time when a ambulance/police car shows up. Many of the cars that I have placed in line vanish! Or if you walk/drive too far from where you where placing these cars they will also vanish... very annoying. Submitted by Prodigy
I have an addition to your posted bug concerning stacking cars for points: I too have noticed that the vehicles dissappear when trying to get a few dollars together to begin a game, so here's a fix... I go to a busy intersection and stop a car by running out in front of it. Now I shoot a couple of holes in the hood and the driver surrenders his car to me. I do this once on each side of the street in order to block traffic. I continue to politely ask the drivers to hop out by blasting their cars (careful not to whack one while they are exiting), and park the car as needed. This does not alert the police, nor does it tip off the emergency units. I can continue doing this untill the bullets run out. And when I do blow them all up, I still don't hear any chattering from the police Submitted by Hanoverfist SOLUTION:
1) never kill anyone while stacking cars because then an ambulance will come and clear any vehicles that aren't on your screen 2) before beginning your demolition work do a test to figure out how many vehicles it takes to get the cops pissed enough to come after you... Then when you begin to stack make sure you do it right next to a respray shop and just before you steal the car that would attract the cops take a run through the respray shop to clear your record... That way the cops will never come and you wont have to worry about cars disappearing. You will of course have to do this every so often to keep clearing your record... 3) never blow up any cars
before your ready to blow up the whole stack, because blowing up a car
would attract a fire engine which would also clear any cars that are off
of your screen...
This one is no big deal, but it is amusing so i'll submit it. (this is with the gta demo) Here's what happened: I had chosen the mission
where you take the bike from the angels. I decided it would be entertaining
to drive in there with a car bomb, push the bike I needed to steal down
the street some, and blow those guys up. This worked fine, and I
went to get on the bike. The moment I pressed enter a police car
came speeding up and hit the bike. However, due to some quirk of
timing, it registered that I was riding the bike even though the graphic
of the bike showed it knocked over. It was quite funny looking.
The bike was severely damaged after I was knocked off and got back on again,
I don't know if this was due to riding it while knocked over or just everyday
damage.
BUG:
You're half way through a certain job, your car is about to explode due to all the misdoings you've been doing, so you get out and grab another car. To your surprise, it is a secret mission car, and you decide to do this one for know (You have no choice anyway). You finish that mission, and return back to the phones for a new job. But wait! Didn't I say you were half way threw a job!?!?!?!?! So you pick a phone and do
this job, which at some point includes dropping a car off in a garage.
You come up to the garage, drive in... but nothing happens!!!! You drive
out, then in again, out, in, out ,in, out ,in, but it's still not working!
So finally you drive in, stop and get out of the car, but you still do
not progress to the next stage in the job. Bummer, so the only way to do
it is to fail the mission, not an easy task sometimes.
In regards to - To your surprise, it is a secret mission car, and you decide to do this one for know (You have no choice anyway.) Get out while you still can,
you have the choice! Just hit the "get out" key while the guy is asking
you whether you want the mission!
I think I found a glitch in the game: In the first chapter of San Andreas, one of the mission is to collect money and drop it off at Chinatown, then you have to kill this guy in a red sports car. Common sense is to block the guy off like a car jacking but he'll just keep pushing your car down the street. When he finally stops trying he'll get out of the car and run, that's where I ran into the problem. When you run him over on the street he dies, but the game doesn't realize that so the arrow is still pointing at the bloody mess on the road. I don't know how to complete the mission because there's no way to finish the game like that. Any ideas? Submitted by Arthur
Just a Kwik note about your GTA mission problem. DON'T wait for the guy to get out of his car, you have to shoot him whilst he is still in it......but you have to be quick because, as you say he does push your car. I had the same problem but this worked okay for me!! Submitted by Steve R-D |
